Snoring Mouth Guard

Can A Snoring Mouth Guard Reduce A Snoring Problem?

If you are a snorer or you share a room with someone who snores, then you understand the frustration of having an interrupted sleep or being kept awake by often intolerable noise. Using a snoring mouth guard can save a relationship, improve the sleep for the snorer and the snorer’s partner and allow both parties to wake refreshed.

Snoring is commonly caused by the soft tissues of the tongue and palate relaxing during sleep. This relaxation causes the back of the tongue to fall back against the airway and restrict the air flow to the lungs. The vibration caused by the air passing through the restricted air passage leads to the common noise of snoring.

A snoring mouth guard works by holding the lower jaw in a forward position during sleep. This prevents the tongue from falling back towards the throat and allows the airways to remain open. With the expanded amount of air reaching the lungs the vibration, and hence the noise, is reduced or eliminated altogether.

Is The Snoring Jaw Supporter Better Than The Snoring Mouth Guard?

This is where the snoring mouth guard idea comes into its own; the snoring mouth guard is a device which is used to quiet the snorer throughout the night, so that you can both get a good night’s sleep.

A snoring mouth guard can be custom made by a dentist after taking impressions of the shape of the snorer’s mouth, however, a cheaper option is to purchase a snoring mouth piece from an online source or a pharmacy.

These types of over-the-counter snoring mouth guards can be molded to shape by the user. Holding the mouth guard by the holding tab provided, it is placed in a bowl of very hot water for approximately 10 seconds. When the material has been softened in this way the mouth guard is placed in the mouth and molded around the teeth. The mouth guard is then placed into cold water to “set” it.

If you find that the snoring mouth guard is not comfortable the molding process can be performed again to achieve a better fit. When the mouth guard is comfortable the holding tab can be cut off with scissors.

It may take several nights for the wearer to get used to sleeping with the snoring mouth guard in place, however, the majority of wearers find that they become accustomed to the device within a few days.
